San Rafael Contemporary Renovation
Commission
This home, located in the Country Club area of San Rafael was a 1950’s sprawling ranch. Remodeled once in the early nineties, any improvements were now outdated. When our client purchased this house for their family of five, there was considerable deferred maintenance, decrepit finishes, failing windows and dark, separated spaces. The whole house renovation included opening up common spaces and creating a greater connection to the outdoors. All of the rooms received a facelift with new materials, doors, hardwood flooring, trim and casework. The Kitchen was completely remodeled to provide more light and connection with adjoining spaces. A mud/laundry room at the back end of the Garage was added. All of the bathrooms were renovated. The Primary Suite and bathroom were reconfigured to create a spa like experience. On the exterior, the original, half-shingle and stucco finishes were replaced with horizontal, nickel-groove, lap siding. All of the windows and doors were replaced. A cantilevered entry canopy was added to create a more welcoming approach to the home. To cap it all, the roof was reinforced, and a large solar array added.
