Glen Ellen Cottage

Commission

Tucked into the woodlands of Glen Ellen, Sonoma County, this Guest Cottage is a secluded retreat that honors its site’s history. Built atop the foundation of a former cottage, the new structure blends modern simplicity with timeless materials, offering a serene escape.

Dark-stained, fire-treated vertical siding allows the cottage to merge with its surroundings, while a steep standing-seam metal roof extends the vertical rhythm. Hidden gutters maintain clean lines, and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows blur the boundary between indoors and out.

Inside, vaulted ceilings and light wood finishes create a warm, airy atmosphere. A compact sleeping loft overlooks the open main room, where a pellet stove adds cozy charm. Below, a bath and laundry tuck neatly into the layout, leading to a spacious bedroom with its own vaulted ceiling.

Large glass doors extend living outdoors, opening to a generous deck that faces a quiet glade and stream. Seamlessly integrated with nature, this refined retreat balances simplicity, comfort, and craftsmanship.
