Kentfield Remodel + Addition
Commission
Our challenge encompassed adding living space, a usable garage, and additional storage while remaining true to the existing home’s style and the scale of the immediate neighborhood.
The original home had two wings. One as a bedroom wing, the other the Kitchen/Family/Laundry/Guest wing with the Living Room connecting the two. The Kitchen/Guest wing had been previously remodeled in early 2000’s.
As part of the addition we designed, the Bedroom wing was increased in width, length, and height to incorporate additional space over three levels. In the Lower Level we added a two-car Garage, mechanical space and storage.
The Main Level was improved with an upgraded Primary Suite and two secondary bedrooms with a shared bath. The Upper Level contains an open office with views of Mt Tamalpais, a Guest Room and separate bath. Connecting all levels of this wing is a new, open-riser stair that doubles as a lantern to bring natural light into the heart of the home and the existing Living Room.
Though the exterior of the home is designed to work with the existing materials, scale and texture, the interior reflects the client’s clean, crisp, Scandinavian aesthetic. Interior spaces were vaulted wherever possible, and ample widows placed for abundant natural light. The windows’ divided lites work in harmony with the Living Room’s original, central windows.
